Greetings and salutations! Usually Jack handles the Trailer Roundup but he’s busy making an emergency delivery of ham hocks in the Pork Chop Express and asked me to fill in.  Ol’ Jacks not much of a horror guy, he saw enough of that a few years back when he tangled with this crazy guy name of Lo Pan in San Franc…you know what, forget it. That’s ancient history and it’s really his story to tell anyway.

Getting back to it here’s some trailers for three new horror movies coming out this fall and a special vintage trailer to round it out. So grab some popcorn, turn up the sound, and let’s get to it!

Flatliners (2017) Official Trailer

First up is the newest trailer for the Flatliners remake. I don’t have a great deal of hope for this one despite the presence of Diego Luna and Ellen Page but this is a hell of a great trailer. Disjointed dialogue and a weird mechanical noises immediately make you uneasy. It has the early 80’s feel in the pacing like something Adrian Lyne would come up with. I’m betting the trailer is better than the finished product but being a fan of the original Joel Schumacher film I’ll be seeing it anyway.

Happy Death Day (2017) Official Trailer

Groundhog Day is one of the best comedies of all time. Scream is one of the best and smartest thrillers of all time. Put them together and you have Groundhog Scream! Wait, Groundscream Day! How about Screamhog Day? Well, whatever you would call that mashup it’s the concept of Happy Death Day. This horror-comedy is about a bitchy co-ed who is living her birthday over and over and over again. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, she doesn’t have time to learn piano or ice sculpture as her day always ends with her violent murder. It’s high concept and potentially a total mess but the trailer works for me and these small horror movies are the ones that tend to be break out smashes when done right.

The Lodgers (2017) Official Trailer

Keeping with the horror theme next we have The Lodgers. This gothic chiller features 2 teens that live alone(ish) in the ramshackle haunted family manor where they are beholden to ghosts and have to not only follow nonsensical rules but have to sing the rules to the ghosts when they break them. It looks psychosexual and crazy and will probably be very well done. It’s from the UK so I won’t be planning to see this one in a theater near me. More like a Redbox or Amazon rental. As an added bonus David Bradley shows up and it looks like he is brutally murdered. After Game of Thrones I don’t think I will ever tire of seeing him die.

Memento (2000) – Vintage Trailer!

As promised, I’m going to wrap this up with a vintage trailer. I’ve always been a big fan of well crafted trailers and this is one of my all time favorites from one of my all time favorite movies. This trailer is particularly effective in perfectly capturing the tone of the movie and the general plot without really revealing much of anything to the new viewer but resonating even stronger with the fan. If you have never seen Christopher Nolan’s Memento I urge you to do so immediately. If you have seen it, and love it as much as I do, this trailer will instill a deep need for a re-watch.

Memento is one of the greatest films of the 2000s, but damned if we can remember why. We also wouldn’t recommend remaking Flatliners without Kevin Bacon since he’s the only one who can defeat Billy Mahoney.

The Trailer Roundup will return….
