Tomb Raider (2018) – Trailer 1
With the casting of Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Man from UNCLE, that movie you haven’t seen that she won an Oscar for) I’ve had high hopes for the reboot of the Tomb Raider series. When they announced it was going to be based off the terrific 2013 game I was even more excited and have been waiting for new footage. The game and movie are both origin-stories of a sort that find Lara Croft reluctantly following in her dead father’s footsteps to locate a hidden island. When she and the crew are shipwrecked Lara is thrust in to a battle for survival with the island’s dangerous inhabitants.
This trailer is quite honestly everything I wanted to see in a new Tomb Raider. It looks to to be following the game’s plot pretty closely and there are a few images here that are straight out of the game down to the framing and choreography.
The always excellent Walton Goggins (Vice Principals, Justified, The Shield) plays the villain Mathias and the movie is directed by Roar Uthaug. You probably don’t know that name but if you have seen Escape or Cold Prey (original Norwegian title Fritt Vilt) you would. After watching the trailer I am very optimistic about the movie. Despite the absolutely horrid poster they released. Seriously, what is wrong with her neck?!

Here is the brand new trailer for Tomb Raider, coming out March 16, 2018. Will this be the one that finally proves you CAN have a good movie based on a video game? I’m willing to bet it will.
